HP Deskjet won't find wifi

I replaced my old laptop with a new one. I had bought a nice HP Deskjet printer as my old one was second hand and printing in streaked lines. Setup was fine on the old laptop but for some reason it would not connect to wifi with the new one. I went all over the internet looking for a solution, here's one example:

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand you are unable to connect the printer to a wireless network,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you ensured the printer software has been installed?

Did you download it from the HP website or the printer disc?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:

Step 1: Prepare for installation

Before installing the printer software and connecting to your wireless network, check the requirements, turn on the computer and the router, and set up the printer.

  1. To use your printer on a wireless network, you need the following items:
    • A computer connected to your wireless network
    • Internet access: HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL for software downloads, using Web Services, and getting printer updates.
  2. Make sure the router and computer are turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network to which you want to connect the printer.
  3. Set up the printer, load paper into the input tray, and install the ink cartridges. For more information about setting up the printer, go to First Time Printer Setup.
  4. Turn on the printer and place it close to the computer and within range of the router during the setup procedure.

Step 2: Install the printer software

On the computer you want to print from, start the software installation, and then download and install the HP full feature print driver. It contains the wireless print drivers, as well as ...

On and on it went.

I did manage to connect the printer to my home wifi but not via enthusiastic advice such as that I pasted above. I connected accidentally.

I switched the laptop on with printer usb unplugged. I then plugged in the usb. The installation pane started, the laptop downloaded everything it needed. It then asked if I wanted to run the thing wifi, I replied yes. It said the following:
Unplug USB - I did
Delete HP Deskjet Printer (leaving another printer name in the list, a default one with numbers) - I did
It connected the printer.

Yay!

( Here's a video that might help - with dreamy music! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQrrzwPb7jE )

Now I have the Question mark lit on top of the printer in the tool pane.
I will work that out next time.

Hope this helps.

Fickle

Cortana is still not speaking to me. What am I paying her for? What have I done wrong? Why doesn't she like me?

Intro and No Sound On TWITTER

What None Geek/Nerd Tech solutions is:

I'm not a geek, I use computers and they ALWAYS go wrong, so I, like everyone else, am forced to go in search of SOLUTIONS. But all I find are generic solutions provided by tech wannabees who obviously cut and paste solutions from people who THINK they KNOW SOMETHING. Invariably they don't. So, I decided to write this blog about the problems I find with my computer and the solutions I hit upon by trial and error.

For example. I bought a Lenovo laptop, it's cool, I like it, but since day 1 problems have cropped up, not Lenovo's fault, they provide the hardware; problems arise from the software, conflicts, update issues, installation failures, the long nightmare list.

Issue 1.

NO SOUND ON TWITTER.

One day I had sound on twitter videos, the next I didn't. What caused this? I have no idea. I went online, I found the usual … go into HKEY registry, muck around, ruin everything, I hope this helps  and, well, surprise, surprise, no, actually it didn't.

My solution:

I right clicked on taskbar at the bottom
I clicked on the hidden icons arrow
I clicked on the speaker icon
There were two settings:
                                       Realtek
AMD high definition (this one was selected)
I selected Realtek and now I have sound on twitter! - but, uh-oh, I no longer have sound with Cortana!

I'll listen to Mark Knopfler after having spent endless fruitless hours searching for a SOLUTION online only to find my own.
Heaven.
Next I might deal with Cortana.

Hope this helps.
